About

About Color Palette Generator

Pick a base color (by eyedropper or hex input) and choose a harmony: monochromatic shades of one hue, analogous neighbors on the wheel, complementary opposites, or triadic and tetradic spreads around the wheel. Adjust how many colors to generate, from 2 to 8.

The palette renders instantly as swatches. Click any swatch to copy its hex value, or copy the whole palette as a comma-separated list for CSS variables, design tools, or brand guidelines.

Colors are computed locally with HSL math - nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent to a server.

FAQ

Color Palette Generator FAQ

Find answers to common questions about color harmonies and using generated palettes.

What is a color harmony?

A harmony is a set of colors positioned relative to each other on the color wheel that are visually pleasing together. Common schemes include monochromatic (one hue, varied lightness), analogous (adjacent hues), complementary (opposite hues), triadic (three evenly spaced hues), and tetradic (four).

Which harmony should I use for a brand?

Monochromatic palettes feel clean and minimal, analogous palettes are calm, complementary palettes create strong contrast for accents and CTAs, and triadic/tetradic palettes are playful and vibrant. Start with one primary hue and a complementary accent.

Can I copy the palette into CSS?

Yes. Copy All produces a comma-separated hex list like #3498db, #e74c3c, ... that you can paste into CSS custom properties or design tools.

Why do my colors look different on screen vs print?

Hex values describe colors in the sRGB color space used by screens. Printers use CMYK and can reproduce a narrower gamut, so printed colors may differ slightly. For exact print matching, convert to CMYK in a design tool.

Are the generated colors accessible together?

Harmonies are chosen for aesthetics, not contrast. For text on a colored background, check the WCAG contrast ratio separately - the tool keeps lightness within readable bounds for most palettes.

Is my base color sent anywhere?

No. All color math runs locally in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored.
