About

About Morse Code Generator

Type plain text to get its Morse code, or paste Morse code to decode it back to text. Switch between the two directions with one click. Words are separated by ' / ' by default, and you can swap the letter separator to a plain space.

Press Play to hear the code through WebAudio at a standard 700 Hz tone. The speed slider adjusts the timing unit (WPM) from 5 to 30, so you can practice listening or train sending at real signaling speeds.

Everything runs locally in your browser - no uploads, no storage, no server round-trip.

    Morse Code Generator FAQ

Find answers to common questions about converting text and Morse code and playing it back.

    What characters can be converted?

    The International Morse table covers A-Z, 0-9, and common punctuation like . , ? ' ! / ( ) & : ; = + - _ " $ @. Unsupported characters are skipped during encoding.

How do I read the output?

Each letter is a group of dots and dashes separated by spaces. Words are separated by ' / ' (or three spaces). For example, '.... . .-.. .-.. ---' spells HELLO.

What does the speed setting do?

It sets the timing unit used for playback. Standard Morse timing is dot = 1 unit, dash = 3 units, letter gap = 3 units, and word gap = 7 units. Higher WPM makes playback faster.

Can I use the audio for practice?

Yes. Play the code and try to copy it by ear, or encode a phrase and decode it back to check your understanding. Starting around 10-15 WPM is a comfortable pace for beginners.

    Is SOS supported?

Yes. SOS is simply ... --- ... (three dots, three dashes, three dots) - type it and play it to hear the universal distress signal.

    Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Conversion and audio generation run entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored.
